Discovering the Distinctive Traits of Ragdolls

Ragdoll cats earned their name from their tendency to relax completely when picked up or held. With a robust physique and soft, medium-length fur in varying shades of seal (brown) and blue (gray), Ragdolls are known for their affectionate and sociable nature.

These felines readily embrace new people, other pets (including dogs), and children. Ragdolls typically take four to five years to reach full maturity, with adult males weighing between 12 to 20 pounds and females ranging from 10 to 15 pounds.

Renowned for their gentle demeanor, Ragdolls are among the least aggressive breeds of domestic cats. They're known for their warm, affectionate disposition and their tendency to greet their owners at the door and follow them around the house, exhibiting dog-like loyalty and behavior.

While they possess intelligence and can easily learn tricks, their large frame can sometimes lead to clumsiness. However, they remain energetically playful. Ragdolls should be kept strictly indoors due to their laid-back nature, as they may not defend themselves against aggressive animals. Additionally, they should never be declawed.

Characterized by short legs, semi-long hair coats with "pointed" markings similar to Siamese cats, Ragdolls have soft, rabbit-like fur that sheds minimally and rarely mats. They sport medium-sized, muscular frames, broad flat-topped heads, medium-sized ears pointed forward, deep blue oblique eyes, and bushy tapered tails.

At birth, traditional Ragdolls are born white and gradually develop their colors over the following days, with full coloration possibly taking two to three years to develop fully. Ragdoll cats come in five colors with three distinct patterns, designated by combining coat color and pattern, such as "Sealpoint" or "Blue Bicolor." Ragdoll Patterns

Mink and Sepia Ragdolls originate from foundational lines within the Ragdoll breed. Historical records indicate that the Ragdoll breed was developed through the breeding of a Burmese carrying the sepia gene and a white Angora carrying the mink gene. While Mink and Sepia Ragdolls share the same colors and patterns as traditional Ragdolls, they exhibit distinct characteristics. Unlike traditional Ragdolls, Minks and Sepias are born with coloration and possess a richer, darker coat hue. Their coats are notably plushier and less prone to matting. Minks typically display a captivating aqua blue-green eye color, while Sepias boast a mesmerizing golden green eye hue. A sepia Ragdoll is produced through the mating of two mink Ragdolls.
